Mark-led leadership recognised by INEC– ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied reports in some quarters that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has refused to recognise the Senator David Mark-led leadership of the party.

Recall that a coalition of opposition leaders recently adopted the ADC and their platform to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 poll and appointed former Senate President David Mark and former Interior Minister, Rauf Aregbesola, as interim chairman and secretary.

But there were reports on Tuesday that some state chairmen of the ADC had called on INEC to “resist any pressure to recognise any illegal change of leadership in the party.”

Also, there were social media reports yesterday that the electoral  body had refused to recognise the new ADC leadership and the party’s candidates for the forthcoming by-elections.

But reacting, Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the party dismissed the reports as false, and asked Nigerians to concentrate on the task of mobilising the long suffering” people of the country” for the great task of saving it from the hands of the ruling party.

“The attention of ADC has been drawn to a story circulating that the @inecnigeria has refused to recognise the new leadership of our party under the Distinguished Senator David Mark.

“This story is entirely false and should be ignored. We urge Nigerians to ignore such misleading reports from any quarters and stay focused on mobilising the long suffering people of Nigeria for the great task to save our dear country,” he wrote on his X handle.

However, efforts to get the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respond to whether it has recognised the ADC candidates for the  forthcoming by-elections were unsuccessful as officials neither answered their phone calls nor responded to text messages sent to them.
