Mark made the call in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Paul Mumeh, in Abuja on Friday. The Senate President was speaking at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Otukpo, Benue State to mark the 2009 Christmas celebration.

Mark urged political leaders to make the welfare of their followers their watchwords. He further urged political office-holders at all levels to be sensitive to the plight of their followers and respond to them. He, however, told Nigerians to continue to pray for their leaders and attributed his achievements to the prayers of the people.

The Senate President implored Nigerians to change their attitudes toward their leaders and the country. “The current negative posture does not portend good omen. We must learn to trust our leaders, we must build confidence, we should profess positivity and be optimistic to attract positive development,” he stressed.

Mark reiterated his call on Nigerians to pray for the speedy recovery of the President and his family. In an earlier sermon, Rev. Father Kenneth Ode, called for renewed faith and hope in God. He urged the congregation to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ in order to show the light to the world like the saviour did.
