Market remodel: Commission uncovers 1000 fake shops allocations

Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Agency has uncovered 1,000 shops illegally allocated to some traders also known as Yan-Tebura at Kantin-Kwari market.

Chairman of the agency, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado said 3, 468 shops were said to have been allocated to the traders after remodeling the market, but in the process of screening, the agency had discovered 1000 fake allocations.

“We are still screening the traders and from all indications more fake allocations will be uncovered. The verification exercise has saved a lot for government,” he said.

Rimingado explained that government directed the agency to carry out the verification to ensure that only genuine traders were allocated the shops.

He said: “If government did not conduct the exercise, thousands of shops could have been allocated to the wrong people, thereby creating confusion in the whole allocation exercise.”

The chairman added that with the conduct of the verification, only the traders could get shops in the market. He appealed to the affected traders to cooperate with the agency, as the exercise needs their support.

In another development, arrangements have been concluded to conduct an induction course for the 120 newly employed personnel of the anti-corruption agency with a view to equiping them to work in accordance with ideals of public service.

The Head of Service, Muhammad Awwal Na’Iya, stated this at a send-off reception in honor of the outgoing Director Operation of the Commission, DSP Nasiru Haruna Gusau.

Na’Iya assured the newly recruits that government would pay their salary as soon as possible, but urged them to abstain from truancy, late coming, laxity and tardiness in discharging their duties.
