Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) has commenced the issuance of certificate of allocation to allottees of market shops and warehouses in the council.

AMAC chairman, Abdullahi Adamu Candido, while flagging off the exercise at AMAC Market, FHA, Lugbe on Monday, described it as a good development in the council’s market sector.

Candido, who was represented by his vice, Lawrence Onuchukwu, said in the past, titles of market properties were valueless and worthless in the public domain due to the proliferation, fraudulent practices and racketeering by miscreants.

“In order to repair the damage and uplift the standard of our markets, we decided to embark on formal verification and recertification exercise to enable us provide accessible data for all markets within the council and come up with harmonised allocation papers,” he said.

He said allottees can approach financial institutions for loans with the new allocation certificate as it is structured in line with global best practices and standard security features.

He said the responsibility of measuring up to standard and adhering to the original concept of a modern city were what informed the council’s upgrading and remodelling of market facilities in the council and urged shop owners in the council to apply for the verification exercise.

Prince Mike Orizu, of Appsoft IT Limited, one of the information technology firms partnering with the council in verifying the market, said over 700 shop owners in the first phase would be issued allocation certificates.
