A former aspirant for the Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Martha Agba, has formally announced her intention to run for the position of Chairman of Obudu Local Government Area.

In her declaration, Agba underscored her passion for development and a relentless drive to translate promises into tangible outcomes for all residents of Obudu.

She acknowledged the significant challenges currently facing the Local Government Area and pledged to address these issues head-on with the collective input and support of the community.

The public servant promised that, under her leadership, Obudu would experience substantial and meaningful development.

Agba, who previously served as Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Affairs to the Cross River State Governor, emphasized her familiarity with the complexities of public service and her readiness for the task ahead.

Her campaign agenda is built on nine basic points: Good Governance and Accountability; Social welfare and humanitarian; Education; Healthcare; Agriculture; Youth empowerment; Economic development and igr; Environment culture and tourism; and Security and Peace Building.

Her declaration read in part: “I, Martha Utsunung Agba, a proud native of Kubbong-bette in Obudu under Angiaba/Biegiaka ward in Cross River State Nigeria write to formally declare my intention to contest for the position of Local Government Chairman of Obudu, Northern Cross River State, in the forthcoming 2024 elections.

“With deep love for our great nation and an unwavering commitment to the progress of Obudu State and Nigeria at large, I have engaged in extensive consultations with key stakeholders, leaders, and community members. These discussions have further strengthened my resolve to step forward and serve our people in a leadership capacity. I am driven by a vision of growth, purposefulness, and development that I believe is achievable through effective governance.

“As a humanitarian and advocate for sustainable development, particularly in my roles as a UNWFP and Commonwealth Ambassador, and a strong supporter of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Sendai Framework, I firmly believe in the power of good governance. Under the All Progressive Congress (APC), I aim to utilize legislative tools and strategic planning to deliver meaningful progress to our local government and ensure that the dividends of democracy reach every corner of Obudu Extensively.

“In addition to my nine areas of focus, I will focus on key areas that are critical to our collective concerns, such as Timely and prompt Payment of salaries and allowances of LGA officials and appointees, traditional rulers, primary health care workers, and primary school teachers.

“I understand that this vision is tasking , but I am confident that, with your support, active participation, and leverage on social capital , we can achieve these goals together. I have always been committed to the idea of “Follow the Money” and believe that through our collective efforts, we can ensure that resources are used efficiently for the development of our communities.

“I offer myself as a servant-leader, driven by the energy, vision, and ideals of social capitalism. I am dedicated to positive representation that accelerates the growth and rapid development of Obudu.

“Together, with God’s guidance and your unwavering support—whether political, social,moral, and prayers – I am confident that we can transform Obudu into a model of progress and prosperity.”
