Masari flags off construction of Katsina underpasses

Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State yesterday flagged off the construction of two inter-switch roads (underpasses) located at Kofar Kaura and Kofar Kwaya areas of Katsina metropolis.

The projects which are awarded to Triacta Nig Ltd will consume N5.8billion and are expected to be completed in one year from the date of the flag-off.

In his address during the ground-breaking ceremony at Kofar Kaura, Masari said the projects were part of the urban renewal programmes of his restoration agenda which also include construction and upgrading roads and drainage to ensure free flow of traffic and combat flooding.

He said in addition to the World Bank projects of drainage constructions through NEWMAP, his administration had spent over N5bn in the same regard.

On the underpass project, Masari said the contractor had no excuse in not completing the work at the stipulated time as 70 per cent of the money had already been paid.

“This is not a kind of project that could be delayed considering the kind of hardship that it can cause. The contractor has therefore no excuse whatsoever not to complete the project in time,” he said.

The governor appealed to residents and all other road users to exercise patience, assuring them that it would be of immense benefit to them.

In his remarks, the project manager, Mr Sadek Awwad, assured the government and people of the state that the project would be delivered in time and standard quality.
