Road construction facilitates vehicular movement and makes conveyance of goods easier. It is always a cheerful story whenever a promise is made for the construction of a particular road by any government. This has been the case when the former Governor of Katsina state, Barrister Ibrahim Shehu Shema announced the plan for making a 5 km road in Funtua a dual carriage way back in 2013. Though, construction began in earnest at the beginning, but stalled prior to the 2015 general elections. Reason for its stoppage was unknown and it could not be money as the former Governor always boasted that his regime set aside money for each contract he awarded. It could be that it was stalled by the very government that initiated it for the reason that public opinion showed that the project was not the main priority of Funtua Community.
It was really pathetic that the dust emanating from the uncompleted road poses health hazard to especially asthmatic patience whose livelihood depends on the businesses by the road side. This was the annoying thing that made people to call on the new APC government to come to the rescue of the people by completing the project. It is really commendable to see that Governor Aminu Bello Masari has answered the call and the road project is now at the advanced stage of completion.
Now that work on the road commences and Masari’s government plans for 2016, Funtua community wants fairness in developmental projects such as township roads and tertiary institutions which are mostly tilted in favour of Katsina Central Senatorial Zone leaving the other major urban centres like Funtua and Daura Senatorial zones like ghost cities.
In light of this, Funtua community desires for more road projects especially making some roads dual carriage. Some of such roads include Sokoto road up to Funtua eastern Bye pass-Unguwar Dahiru, Zaria road up to Bakin-Dutse bridge and from Jabiri junction to Maigamji, passing through SBRS ABU and Government Technical College as well as the busy Rafin/Iwa road which starts from central roundabout to Western Bye-pass. These projects if executed will decongest the bustling city and provide easy access to other towns.
Also there are inter-quarters roads, within the metropolis that require urgent attention of rehabilitation by the State Government. Your Excellency, Sir, we would wish to remind you about the importance of executing these projects in Funtua as it is the gateway to Katsina State for people coming from Abuja, Kaduna, Niger, Lagos and other south-western states, so whatever impression a visitor has of Funtua will definitely affect the state in terms of infrastructural development.
Similarly, all the Federal roads that link Funtua and other towns such as Zaria-Funtua-Gusau, Funtua-BirninGwari and Funtua-Yashe roads are in bad shape. It is our hope that Katsina state government will draw the attention of the Federal government to repair the roads.
We recommend the same treatment to Daura Senatorial District in order to cover the two senatorial districts.
