Despite strong condemnations that trailed the presence of hooded security personnel during last governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states, a masked policeman was sighted in the early hours of yesterday in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

One of the two gun-wielding mobile policemen sighted standing on a patrol van  at a popular Finance Junction in Central Area was driving towards Area 1 at exactly 8:30 am.

The use of veils by security personnel during previous elections had sparked off speculations that they might be members of militant groups recruited in order to perpetrate electoral malpractices.

However, some military and police officers met along Kuje road and Berger Junction allowed voters to proceed to the polling booths after the display of their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs).

People on essential duty, including journalists were also being permitted to move after proper identification.

On Friday, the All Progressives Congress (APC) alleged that ethnic militias and ex-militants are now wearing fake police and army uniforms so they can unleash mayhem on the opposition and disrupt voting, especially in the
South-west, without hindrance.

In a statement issued in Lagos by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) were sighted at Owu -Elepe in Ikorodu Local Government Area on Friday
morning changing into fake police and army uniforms.

It said this confirmed the alarm earlier raised by the party that fake uniforms of security agencies were being sewn in the capital city of a South-West state.
