Members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) announced their defection to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) in Katsina State.
They cited unfulfilled promises and failure to secure the nation as major reasons for their defection .
The defection was announced during a rally held at the NDC headquarters in Old GRA, Katsina. During the event supporters of the party described the party as a credible alternative capable of addressing pressing issues such as economic hardship, insecurity, and challenges in the education sector.
While welcoming the new entrants, the NDC State Chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Ilu Barde, said the development reflects growing confidence in the party’s vision and leadership.

He criticized the APC for what he described as unfulfilled promises and lack of sincerity, assuring that the NDC is committed to transparent governance, economic revitalization, and job creation.

Similarly, he State Women Leader, Hajiya Maryam Aminu Mani, praised the defectors for their decision, noting that the party is anchored on strong values and inclusiveness. She encouraged more women to formally join the party, expressing optimism about its chances in the 2027 general elections.

Shafi’u Suleiman Yandaki who is one of the defectors, faulted the APC’s governance style, saying it has failed to deliver tangible benefits to the people. Another defector Hajiya Daharatu Yar’adua cited dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership as her reason for leaving, adding that she is committed to contributing to positive change through the NDC.
