Their action is another unheard-of undertaking that ordinarily should done locally by national agencies like the Nigerian Printing and Minting Company, INEC, and the Immigration Services as a collaborative venture to design and print customized National IDs. If allowed to go ahead, the MasterCard deal will expose millions of Nigerians’ data, including members of the National Assembly, to foreign agencies like the CIA and FBI, among many others.
Scarce public funds which should have been channelled into national economy are being wasted; jobs that should be created at home for millions of jobless youths are equally being exported to America. If this is intended to smoothen the way in support of the minister’s putative bid for the World Bank Presidency job in 2017, when the tenure of the current Jim Yong Kim expires, should Nigerians’ data security be the bargaining chip for that ambition? The House of Representatives should wade into this matter before it is too late.
