Mbang, who briefed newsmen on Thursday in Uyo on activities for the celebrations this weekend in Eket, advised President Goodluck Jonathan to shelve the ideas of tenure elongation and to work hard to bring succour to Nigerians.

The former President of Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) said Nigerians have many problems confronting them, including scarcity of potable water, good road networks, epileptic power supply, corruption and poor educational facilities.

“My advice to the president is that he should face his job and leave this politics of tenure elongation. If I were Jonathan, I would have concentrated on what I promised to do for the people.

“Four years will soon finish, he may think it’s still long. Let him concentrate on his job and leave this other four, five or six year term. I am worried about development, giving employment to our young people.

“These are the things that worry me. Not someone spending four, five or 10 years. That is not the priority of Nigerians today; the priority of Nigerians is to see how our young people can work.

“I hope they will do another minimum wage after this one because things have become increasingly expensive,” Mbang said.

Mbang said the salary gap between political office holders and workers should be closed to make room for people who have genuine interest in serving the people to go into politics.

“If the politicians are taking so much money, other people should also be able to take close to what they are taking because we live in the same country.

“Salary gaps between politicians and other class of workers should not be more than N5,000,” Mbang prescribed.

The prelate said that the least worker should not go home with anything less than N50,000 for now.  (NAN)
