The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old motor mechanic, Suleiman Anaba, in Mashegu Local Government Area for allegedly stealing and dismantling a customer’s Toyota Corolla.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect had already begun disassembling the vehicle and selling its parts before he was apprehended.
According to him, the suspect was given the car for repairs but later absconded with it and allegedly converted it for personal use.
“On March 22, 2026, at about 9.30am, the police received a complaint that one Suleiman Anaba, 32, of Sahonrami in Mashegu LGA, was given a Toyota Corolla with registration number AG 281 BNK for repairs about a week earlier, but the vehicle could no longer be found,” Abiodun said.
He explained that operatives attached to the Mashegu Division tracked and arrested the suspect, who confessed to stealing the vehicle and moving it to Kontagora, where he had begun selling its parts.
“The suspect led police operatives to the location where the vehicle was kept, and it was subsequently recovered,” he added.
