A mechanic who admitted to have stolen N30,000 out of N76,000 he saw in one of his clients’ car has been sentenced to four weeks imprisonment.

The prosecutor, Mr Gabriel Musa, told an Abuja Magistrate court in Wuse that one Moris Gwale reported a case of theft of money at the Mpape Police Station on Nov. 20. 

He said the convict, Sule Abdullahi, stole N30,000 from N76,000 that the complainant had in his car, which he took to the convict for repair at his garage in Mpape.

The prosecutor said the complainant forgot the money in the car and the convict, after repairing the car, stole some of it. He said during police investigation, the convict denied but later confessed to have stolen the money. Musa told the court that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Penal Code.

The convict begged for leniency, saying that he would not steal again.

The magistrate, Mr Teribo Jim, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime. He also ordered that he paid N30,000 as compensation to the complainant. (NAN)
