The Director of Public Health in the State Ministry of Health, Dr. Ibrahim Adamu, said this at a workshop organised by Pathfinder International on media content development in Lafia.
Dr. Adamu said, “The media should continue its social responsibility agenda by informing and enlightening the people, especially those in the rural areas, for them to embrace family planning by going for counselling, use of contraceptives in order to enjoy the benefits of family planning to the family, the community and the country at large.”
In her remarks, the Media Communications Officer of Pathfinder International, Nigeria, Mrs. Somto Aruanya, said, “We are calling on the media to enhance and sustain the tempo of the advocacy for the public to continue embracing family planning.”
Similarly, the Head of Lafia Local Government Primary Health Care Centre, Abdulmumin Aliyu, said, “Many people are coming for counselling and administration of family planning medicines as they are free.”
Aliyu, therefore, called on youths to avoid sexual intercourse outside marriage as it was the best means of preventing diseases.
