Media Trust Group, publishers of Daily Trust newspaper, as well as owners of Trust TV and Trust Radio, has honoured Wada Abdullahi Kachako as the 2024 Unsung Hero of the Year.
The award recognises Kachako’s three decades of dedicated service in providing skills acquisition and education to thousands in his community through his Amar Waqf Foundation.
The foundation offers training in carpentry, electrical work, make-up artistry, and other vocational skills, transforming lives and empowering individuals to secure sustainable livelihoods.
Media Trust noted that Kachako’s initiative exemplifies the power of individual effort in fostering community development.

“For over three decades, he has been shaping lives through support for education and empowerment, shining a guiding light for thousands by proving that one person can transform their future. His non-profit schools provide free education and meals to hundreds of orphans and vulnerable children, ensuring they not only learn but excel. Today, 680 students are enrolled, with many set to graduate and pursue higher education,” the company said.
The Daily Trust Unsung Hero of the Year Award replaced the organisation’s previous African of the Year Award.
In his acceptance speech, Kachako commended Media Trust for the recognition and revealed the secret behind sustaining his initiative. He said, “If you can dedicate 10 per cent of what you earn in an endowment and use it to empower somebody; that is all it takes.”
