The Chairman of Media Trust Group, publishers of Daily Trust titles and owners of Trust TV and Radio, Malam Kabiru Yusuf, has pledged to employ best-graduating students of the Department of Mass Communication of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Niger State into the company as part of the policy to nurture talents in the media industry.

He made the pledge while speaking during the department’s annual interactive sessions between professionals in the media industry and students held at the university’s auditorium at the permanent site in Lapai on Wednesday.

He said the Media Trust Group had developed a policy of giving best graduating mass communication students from the northern universities and polytechnics the opportunities to develop their journalism career.

He charged students to intensify efforts in reading and personal development to excel in media practice.

The chairman, who said Media Trust Group is national in its coverage, added that the organisation would not engage in anything that would undermine the progress and development of the country.

The Vice-Chancellor of IBB University, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu thanked the chairman of Media Trust Group for taking time to come to the university and interact with students, saying that Media Trust had bridged the communication gaps between the North and the South.

He called for a more productive relationship between the university and Media Trust Group.

Earlier, Head of Department of Mass Communication, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Mr. Ternenge Ende said the interactive sessions were annually organised by the department to bring professionals to interact with students and shape their knowledge and understanding of media establishment and practice.

Mr Ende added that the unbundling of mass communication as a course by the National Universities Commission (NUC) also called for more interactions with professionals in the media industry to identify gaps in the teaching and practice of journalism to enable the department produce students that were up-to-date in the trends of journalism practice.
