Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of the company, Mounir Gwarzo, urged journalists to go beyond ordinary reporting and do investigations that would stand them out.
Gwarzo, represented by Executive Director, Finance and Corporate Service, Nura Daura, said: “I sincerely and hope that you’ll put all effort and your ability to this training so that at the end, you’ll become specialists. You’ll learn a lot and be able to meet the expectations of the company.”
Group Executive Director, Digital and Editorial, Media Trust, Naziru Mikailu, said the training was to guide journalists in the early stages of their career.
He said the company had a reputation for doing big investigative stories, but “we want to now double our efforts on that.”
The Chief Executive Officer of Trust TV, Ibrahim Shehu, charged upcoming journalists to be brave and meticulous in telling the right story through evidence-based investigative reporting with good audio and clear images.
“I don’t think of any media in this country where they have a mentorship program for two months before you actually get to what you need to do. So, you guys are a lucky bunch in terms of having this,” he said.
