Medical consultants to build secretariat in Abuja

The Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCAN) is to construct a national secretariat complex to ease its administration.

The complex, sited at Lugbe 1 Layout in Abuja, will also accommodate the head office of a health maintenance organisation MDCAN is floating, an events centre and a 52-room guest house in two later phases.

The MDCAN President, Ngim Ngim, at the ground-breaking and foundation-laying ceremony, said the complex would help the association in “storage, easy retrieval of documents, improve coordination of activities and programmes, enhance communication and relationship with partners and bolster its image and status.

“It will also serve as a platform to diversify the source of revenue of the association in the near future rather than total dependence on capitation and levies.”

The project is planned to be executed in three phases: the secretariat, to be funded with members’ contributions, while the events centre and guest house will be funded by subscription by members and other interested investors.

MDCAN, the highest body of doctors in the medical profession in Nigeria, consists of consultants and specialists.
