Medical expert lauds enactment of mental health laws in Ekiti

Mrs Akindotun Merino, a U.S.-based Professor of Psychology, on Tuesday, lauded Ekiti state government for initiating the process that led to the enactment of mental health laws in the state.

Merino, who is with Argosy University, Florida, an indigene of Odo Ayedun community in Ikole Local Government of Ekiti State, gave the applaud during an advocacy visit to Ekiti State House of Assembly in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti.

She described Ekiti as a trailblazer that should be emulated by sister states.

The medical expert, who is also the Executive Director of African Mental Health Alliance (AMHA), said the intervention was timely and highly beneficial “as Nigeria loses over N5.7 billion annually due to mental health issues.’’
