The forum, the first of its kind, is made up of medical and health veterans in Kaduna State who have served in MHWUN in various capacities, both at the state and federal levels.
Speaking at the inauguration, the chairman of the elders’ forum, Comrade Danbala Dogo, who is a two-time chairman of the state union and immediate past national publicity secretary of the union, said the forum will not only boost the activities of the union but will also contribute to enhancing the healthcare in the state.
“With our wealth of experience we will guide the union on the right path and we shall ensure, we boost health related issues in our own way. First, we shall try to tackle the lukewarm attitude on the part of some of the workers towards their duties.
“It is incumbent on health workers to take their jobs seriously due to their strategic nature, and they should always abide by the ethics of the profession.
“Governments too on their part are advised to always pay workers their wages and entitlements to prevent frequent industrial actions. In any case, we shall make sure that incessant and unnecessary strikes are avoided by the workers because it is not always palatable when health workers go on strike.”
In his remarks, the Kaduna State Chairman of MHWUN, Comrade Emmanuel A. Wudiri, said the reason he established the elders forum of the union is because he still has confidence in their medical experience and their unionism.
“These elders are not people picked from the streets. They are medical and health veterans and they have served in various important offices before retiring. So rather than basking in the aftermath of their retirement; it is better for them to come on board and always be nearby so that we can get meaningful advice from them.
