According to the project consultant, Mohammed Abubakar, the programme which is to commence soon will be an annual event and is designed for the development of football in Nigeria as well as youth empowerment.

He explained that it would be a sixty days football selection, training and schooling for youths of U-15-18 years on television with total concentration on the participants on/off the pitch attitudes with the required discipline to attain professional level.

“The broad objective of the project is to promote the development of football at the grassroots level through proper planning, coordination and monitoring of the talents to be discovered.

“ It is tailored to empower a sizeable population of our teeming sports loving youth, assist in reducing social vices and crime and turning waste to wealth”, he maintained.

According to Abubakar, apart from the application/registration fee to be paid by participants, Meding Sport would be responsible for all expenses which include accommodation, feeding, training kits and cost of hiring local and foreign coaches for the programme.

He said in a bid to encourage private sector participation in sports organization and development, the organization has gone into mutually beneficial partnership with corporate organizations like Fidelity Bank which he said would serve as the official banker.

Abubakar said discussions are in top gear to bring on board other sports friendly organizations like ETISALAT, GLO, PEPSI, UAC and Nigerian Breweries.
