Meningitis kills 46 in Katsina – WHO

Katsina state has recorded 46 deaths since the reported outbreak of Celebro Spinal Menigitis (CSM) in the state, a World Heath Organisation (WHO) official has said.

In a statement made available to newsmen by the social media executive of WHO in Katsina state, Umole Elfrida, the world health body said the state has recorded about 713 suspected cases of CSM.

WHO said it has, in collaboration with the state Primary Health Care Development Agency and other partners, conducted CSM vaccination for five days to halt the scourge of the outbreak.

“The retro active vaccination was carried out in 4 Local governments of Bindawa, Mani, Kurfi and Jibia. The exercise was carried out after training of teams and sensitization of the community.

“Different schools, institutions and health workers were sensitized with provision of ceftriaxone for treatment of cases. The total number of people immunised is 78,936,” the statement reads.
