Residents of Ore, the headquarters of Odigbo Local Government area of Ondo State, have expressed concern over environmental and public health risks following the discovery of the corpse of a mentally-ill man along the Ore overhead bridge.
The lifeless body of the unidentified man, covered with a yellow cloth, was found beside the roadside, attracting the attention of commuters, traders and other road users.
Residents, who spoke with Daily Trust, said the deceased had been lying at the location for several days before his body was noticed, adding that the decomposing corpse had begun emitting a foul odour, causing discomfort to people passing through the area.
They described the situation as a potential public health hazard, warning that leaving the body unattended could expose residents and road users to environmental pollution and possible disease outbreaks.

Idowu Festus, a resident of the community appealed to the government agencies, including environmental health officials and security authorities in the local government, to urgently evacuate the corpse and ensure proper disposal in the interest of public safety.
He also urged relevant authorities to improve support and intervention for homeless and mentally challenged persons to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As of the time of filing this report, the corpse had yet to be evacuated.
