Addressing a press conference yesterday in Jos, chairman of the group, Emmanuel Zopmal, said that the umbrella body had decided to declare its total support for the reelection of President Jonathan because “he is a man who loves Nigeria and has never tampered with the political development of this country.”
Zopmal added: “For the fact that President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration is faced with the worst challenges that ever confronted Nigeria before does not mean that he has failed. In the face of these daunting situations, he has achieved a lot in education, transport, youth empowerment, agriculture, among others. Within a span of five weeks our military have been able to recapture our territories in the North-east from Boko Haram.”
He further said that, “we want our dear president reelected for a well deserved second term despite the opposition propaganda to hoodwink Nigerians. General Muhammadu Buhari is a spectre haunting our democracy. He had in the past previous elections lost woefully, canvassed for northerners to vote for northerners and Muslims to vote for Muslims, which is divisive and undemocratic.
“We also call on our people to come out in large numbers to massively vote President Jonathan on 28 of this month, which is going to be a victory for our democracy. We call on our people to follow the footprint of our forefathers who in the past fought for our rights from Hausa/Fulani and will judge us from their graves if we take a wrong decision today.”
