The Board of Directors of KBL Insurance Limited has announced the appointment of Mr Lawal Mijinyawa as the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD/CEO) following the retirement of Mrs Ukachi Orji.
The underwriting firm, in a release, confirmed that its regulatory authority, National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), had given approval for the appointment of Mijinyawa.
The board met in November, 2023, after Mrs Orji notified it of her intention to retire after over 25 years of service (10 years as MD/CEO), considered and approved Orji’s retirement and resignation with effect from January 1, 2024.
Mijinyawa, (Chiroman Duguri) is an avid insurance practitioner with over 25 years in the insurance industry at various insurance companies in Nigeria.

Mijinyawa holds a BSc in mathematics from the University of Jos, Nigeria, and an MSc in business administration from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He is an associate member of the Nigerian Institute of Management, Nigerian Institute of Marketing and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN).
At a send forth dinner in honour of Mrs Orji in Lagos, the board’s Chairman, Mr Simpson Eimiakhena, thanked her and commended her for raising the bar by moving the company’s premium income to N5bn to become one of the foremost insurance companies in Nigeria.
