Suspected militants  beheaded a Joint Task Force (JTF) informant during a raid on their hideout in Akwa Ibom State. The incident, it was gathered, happened on Sunday in Obon Ebot village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area, when the JTF stormed the community to arrest a wanted militants’ leader, Aboy Ikpor, and his gang, who led the Ikot Ekpene prison break last month that led to the escape of no less than 40 inmates.

A resident of Obon Ebot, Akpan Udotim, said, “They ambushed the man dressed in a military camouflage. They chopped off his head and later dumped his headless body at Urua Obo Inyang Market.”

Commander of the JTF team in-charge of Etim Ekpo, Ukanafun, Oruk Anam, Ika and Ikot Abasi, Major Mohammed Hussein, who led the operation, confirmed the incident but said the dead person was not a soldier.

He said, “The dead person was just our informant. They were three and we gave them military uniforms to wear so as to lead us to the location of their camp to capture some of the suspects who escaped from the Ikot Ekpene Prison, but when he heard gunshots, out of fear, he attempted to escape and I think the bullets caught him.” Meanwhile, three civilians, including a woman, were also said to have been killed separately by suspected cultists in Udianga Enem, Ikot Obioma and Uruk Ata II, all in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area.
