Detectives attached to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team (IRT) have arrested two members of the Amalgamated Niger Delta Avengers for threatening to blow up oil installations in Rivers State. The suspects, who the police said were ex-convicts, were identified as LoveGod Chinuzioke, 27, and Justice Okolo, 25.

The police said the suspects allegedly sent out threat messages to senior staff of the Niger Delta Petroleum Resources (NDPR) located in Obumeze Community, Ahoada LGA in Rivers demanding for an initial payment of N20 million and that the NDPR must place them on a monthly salary of N3 million each

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Moshood Jimoh, who confirmed the arrest said the duo had warned the company that failure to do so would be followed with kidnap, death, vandalism/explosion and attacks on the company’s assets.

He said LoveGod Chinuzioke, who hails from Obumeze Community in Ahoada Local Government Area of Rivers State, is from the host community of NDPR and was just granted bail from Port Harcourt Maximum Prison for a case of armed robbery and kidnapping. 

According him, the suspect allegedly hatched the idea of extorting money from the company and got contact numbers of the senior personnel of NDPR, while Justice Okolo who hails from Aniocha LGA of Delta State composed and sent the threat messages to the company.

He said the suspects also admitted belonging to a notorious armed robbery gang terrorising Ahoada and environs.
