Troops of the Nigerian military attached with Operation Hadin Kai, have combed some Boko Haram terrorists’ enclaves in the Lake Chad Basin and killed at least 10 terrorists during a fierce gun duel in the axis.
Specifically, the terrorists encountered stern-looking security forces along Road Rann – Gamboru Ngala axis, close to Nigeria – Cameroon border, where they had held sway for some time before they met their waterloo, according to the military high command.
Daily Trust reports that the operation was jointly carried out by the troops of the MultiNational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in conjunction with Hybrid Forces and other security agencies.
Commenting on the operation in a statement released on Tuesday, the Director, Defence Media Operation, Markus Kangye, explained that the operation was carried in a bid to clear remnants of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists from their enclave in the Lake Chad Basin.

Kangye, a Major-General, noted the troops, who acted on credible intelligence, “masterfully” stormed the terrorists’ hideouts between Rann and Gamboru, and the development resulted in an intense gun battle.
He said, “The encounter occurred during a combined operation strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of BH/ISAWP terrorists operating within the border communities.
“The troops, acting on credible intelligence, masterfully stormed the terrorists’ hideout between Rann and Gamboru, resulting in an intense gun battle, where 10 terrorists met their Waterloo, as a result of the superior firepower of the gallant troops.
“After the firefight, a huge cache of arms and ammunition were recovered from the scene, including some quantities of anti-aircraft ammunition.”
The senior military officer further explained that the operation was part of a broader strategy to dominate the Southern Lake Chad axis and prevent cross-border movement of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists.
Kangye added that the recovered weapons are undergoing further technical analysis, while search efforts are ongoing to locate possible escapees and other terrorists’ hideouts in the area.
The DDMO added, “The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with the MNJTF, Hybrid Forces and other security agencies have intensified operational tempo in the Lake Chad Basin and other parts of Northern Borno in order to eliminate the remnants of BH/ISWAP in the region.”
