The Military Widows Association (MIWA) has launched its mass transit buses scheme aimed at empowering the widows, orphans, dependents and ex-servicemen.

MIWA’s National President, Veronica Gift Aluko, at the occasion held over the weekend in Abuja, said the new fleet of 20 fully air-conditioned buses would soon commence boarding passengers at the Utako Motor Park.

She expressed gratitude with the fulfilment of what she described as a dream come true, noting that the scheme aimed to provide quality, comfort and convenient transport system while giving widows hope and ensuring a stable life for them.

The Minister of Transportation, represented by the Deputy Director, Mass Transit Administration, Ibrahim Abdulkadir, who commissioned the buses, said MIWA was bridging the gap by addressing the existing gender imbalance in Nigeria’s transportation sector.

On his part, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Maj Gen A. M. Jibrin (Rtd), commended the effort of the handling company, Musamad Nigeria Ltd, for seeing to the success of the launch, noting that, “No effort to support the welfare of widows, fallen heroes and their children would be too much.”
