Troops of the 3 Division/Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE, have neutralized a suspected armed man who attempted to disarm them in a criminal hideout in the state.

According to Major Samson Zhakom, the spokesperson for Operation ENDURING PEACE, the suspect was first arrested on September 4 in the Kaskara community of Barkin Ladi LGA.

He was found with one AK-47 rifle and 11 rounds of 7.62 mm (Special) ammunition.

Disclosing the development on Sunday at the headquarters of the operation, Major Zhakom further explained that the suspected militia member had confessed after his arrest to participating in multiple criminal activities in the general Barkin Ladi area.

He had also volunteered to lead troops to his cohorts’ hideout to recover weapons.

The spokesperson stated that on September 5, while troops were conducting a follow-up operation to the hideout, the suspect made a desperate attempt to snatch a soldier’s rifle to escape.

He said, “troops acted swiftly and neutralised the militia in the process.”

He added that the criminal’s remains have been deposited in the morgue.
