The wife of the state governor, Mrs Olukemi Mimiko, while kitting the sweepers known as “Highway Attendants” last week in Akure, said, this was a fulfilment of the governor’s promise at his inauguration in February this year that he was going to rid the state of wastes.

She emphasised that a major linking card of the “Caring Heart” Programme of the present administration was the environmental well being and as mothers, women owe it a duty to ensure that their homes and environment were kept clean always.

She said, “In realisation of the promise of the governor at his inauguration, a programme has been designed by the Waste Management Authority to value our so-called common pure water sachets as a way of driving the process of total recovery of this waste.

“A specialised nylon processing machine that would convert the recovered waste (pure water sachets) to other things has been acquired and installed at the Waste Recycling and Treatment Plant along Igbatoro road, Akure. People can therefore make a living by sorting out their nylon materials to those who will recycle them”, she said.

“I want to urge our people to key in to the dream of a beautiful Ondo State and make use of the places, and containers provided for waste disposal at all times. Dispose your waste properly, beautify your workshop, markets, homes and keep drainages free of refuse”, she added.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Environment, Mr Lebi Adepiti appealed to drivers plying the highways where these Attendants work to drive carefully and ensure that their head lamps were in very good condition always.
