It is no surprise to us as such development has occurred in the past when Mercedes introduced the A-class in the late 1990s.  Now Mini is venturing into bigger model. The new Paceman will be a cross between the Mini Coupe and Countryman. It will share the same platform as the Countryman and designed to use the John Cooper Works 211-horsepower, turbocharged, 1.6-liter I-4 engine.

The Styling of the Paceman is described by Mini as urban, sporting and masculine. I don’t particularly find it appealing due to the fact Mini seem to be moving away from the tradition which it was known for. But giving that crossover look is doesn’t not seem to achieve much when you ask how much ground clearance can you get from a Paceman.

According to Motor Trend Magazine the interior already looks as if it shares some pieces with the Countryman using the same dual center rail system and four individual seats. The styling is classic Mini featuring a large center-mounted speedometer and large round air vents. The martini holders look to be a new touch, obviously a necessity for attracting the urban, rugged, masculine demographic Mini is shooting for with this crossover.

Many manufacturers are counting on the buying public’s interest to remain in crossovers, even in segments where they may not seem like a natural fit. Well let’s hope when it arrives in Detroit it will be a pleasant surprise.
