The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Bayelsa State has urged the state government to yield to its December 31 dateline on the implementation of the new minimum wage to avoid industrial action.

Chairman of NLC in the state Comrade John Ndiomu, while speaking with journalists in Yenagoa yesterday, said the NLC will not guarantee industrial harmony in the state if government failed to respond positively to the implementation of N30,000 new minimum wage by December 31, 2019.

“We are waiting for the state government and l believe it will respond before December 31. Workers should exercise patience. My assurance to workers is that we will continue to support policies aimed at promoting workers’ wellbeing in the state.

“Governor Dickson is willing and ready to pay the N30,000 new minimum wage. Anytime from now we will receive the circular on that. So workers should be patient, the labour leadership in the state are on course,” he said.

He also applauded the federal government on the partial border closure, saying the move is yielding good results in various local production efforts, especially rice.
