“I wish to call on other developing countries to set up country working group to develop a strategy towards national action plans to mainstream Short Lived Carbon Pollutant reduction in the agriculture sector,” she said.
She stated this during a meeting in Abu Dhabi held to support the Secretary – General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. Ban Ki Moon’s Climate Summit billed for September and Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) to reduce Short Lived Climate Pollutants.
According to a statement, it is the only meeting before the Climate Summit that affords an opportunity for all governments to be fully informed about climate summit and how they can bring bold announcements and actions to the September 2014 Summit.
 Mallam said that Nigeria was looking into the possibility of being an active player in the Accessible Information on Development Activities (AiDA) of the World Bank.
“As a common access point to information on projects and programmes that would enable cooperation and coordination and support decision making, planning and action for the development of communities, Nigeria will look into the possibility of being part of the platform,” the Minister noted.
She highlighted the need to support research on bio gas and animal waste management, adding that the federal government, through the federal ministry of environment would ensure the rapid development of the renewable energy sector so that all Nigerians can get energy.
Also, the National Coordinator of the Renewable Energy Programme in Nigeria and Co-chair of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition, Engr. Mrs. Bahijjahtu Abubakar, said: “there is no better time than now to put the earth on a safe path. I therefore, enjoin everyone to join this crusade.”
The Secretary – General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki – Moon, the Vice President for Sustainable Development at the World Bank, Ms. Rachel Kyte and the Special Representative of the Secretary – General of the United Nations and Chief Executive Officer of Sustainable Energy For All, Mr. Kandeh Yumkellah, were present at the meeting.
