The FCT minister, Malam Muhammed Musa Bello, has called on residents of the FCT to safeguard government property as  the administration will no longer condone the wanton destruction of any of its property.

Speaking during the commissioning of a new Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Scholarship Board office complex in Abuja, yesterday, FCT Permanent Secretary, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, stated that the board remained strategically important in the task of providing education for all school age children, pupils and students in the territory, hence the need to provide a befitting office complex.

He noted that the provision of scholarship grants to indigent qualified pupils and students in the FCT is one of the many ways the administration is encouraging enrolment in schools, adding that the number of out-of-school children in the territory has remained low because of the scholarship scheme.

In an address, the acting Secretary for Education Secretariat, Dr. Bala Mohammed Liman, reiterated that the funding of education should not be left to government alone, and called on public-spirited Nigerians and corporate organizations to invest more in education.

Liman expressed concern that Nigeria has the largest number of out-of-school children, adding that “we must do everything possible to reverse the negative situation.”

He explained that the FCT Scholarship Board has the statutory function of providing educational assistance to qualified indigent students to help them acquire good, quality education to the limit of the resources available to it.
