The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Malam Muhammadu Musa Bello has constituted a committee to ensure speedy completion of Abuja regional market being delayed due to lack infrastructures within the market.
The committee, headed by the Acting Coordinator of the Abuja Metropolitan Management Council, Hajiya Safiya Umar, has other members that include all heads of the agencies and departments in the city management comprising Abuja Investment Limited, Abuja Market Management Limited, Development control, Urban and regional planning, and also Abuja Environmental Protection Agency.
Briefing stake holders during their maiden visit to the market, the head of the committee informed the owners of facilities in the market that their mission was to assess the level of infrastructures at the market and report back to the minister for necessary action.
The committee which took its time touring some major roads inside the market which has about eight thousands shops, 36 ware houses among others, also gave quit notices to traders who converted their shops to their living places.
The Managing Director of the Abuja Markets Management Limited, Abubakar Usman Faruk noted that the market would boost the economy of the Federal Capital Territory as well as accommodate a large number of traders who are presently making use of unapproved areas in the territory as markets.
