The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, has said Nigeria is integrating nanotechnology in the science and technology its infrastructure to aid the economic recovery plan.
Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu disclosed this while inaugurating the National Steering Committee (NSC) of Nano Technology Policy in Abuja.
Dr. Onu said research and development in nanotechnology would play a leading role in putting Nigeria on the world map of scientific and technological achievements.
According to the minister, the technology was very important in the building block of modern and efficient technological attainment.
Dr. Onu said nanotechnology was currently being utilised in Nigeria in the area of information and communication technology, space science technology, ocean research, health, infrastructural development, industrialisation, and Artificial Intelligence.
Through nanotechnology, more efficient equipment and machine would be built to reduce the drudgery of life, he said.
“Until recently, Nigeria seemed to have been a bystander, watching technological achievements without her peremptory participation, but with the inauguration of this Committee today, the narrative is set to be re-written”, he added.
Dr. Onu appealed to the steering committee to collaborate with all MDAs to encourage research and development in nanotechnology in tertiary and research institutions throughout Nigeria.
