The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, has praised Alaro City for its integrated approach to urban development as the project prepares to hand over 200 housing units to homeowners in the Lekki Free Zone, Lagos.

During an inspection tour of the city on Thursday, Dangiwa said housing plays a crucial role in driving Nigeria’s industrial and economic growth. He noted that Alaro City’s combination of residential communities, industrial zones and commercial hubs provides a model for sustainable urban planning capable of attracting long-term investment.

“Housing is key to any industrial hub. For industries to thrive, workers must have access to affordable, well-planned communities,” he said. “With location advantages such as the International Airport, Lekki Deep Sea Port and the growing residential developments in this corridor, we are seeing the building blocks of a truly sustainable economic ecosystem.”

The minister also revealed that the Federal Government is considering the Lekki Free Zone as a location for a new building materials manufacturing hub. The initiative aims to establish such hubs across all geopolitical zones to boost local production, reduce import dependence and accelerate industrialisation.

Alaro City, a 2,000-hectare mixed-use development jointly conceived by Rendeavour and the Lagos State Government, currently hosts over 90 businesses. These include Ariel Foods, which exports therapeutic foods to 17 countries; TY Logistics Park, West Africa’s first Grade A logistics hub; and BUA Starium, a detergent production facility running 24 hours daily.

The city boasts an eight-lane, 60-metre-wide boulevard, an Independent Power Plant scalable to 120MW, a certified water treatment facility, a green drainage system and advanced security infrastructure.

As the first set of 200 homes nears completion, the community will feature a leisure centre with a paddle court, gym, football pitch, supermarket and swimming pool. Over 300 residential plots have already been sold, signalling growing demand for quality housing in a modern urban setting.

Alaro City has also unveiled plans for Wellington College International Lagos, a British education provider scheduled to open in September 2027 with world-class academic facilities and a holistic curriculum.
