Shekarau said the achievements were made possible because of the premium government placed on education in the transformation agenda aimed at making Nigeria one of the 20 largest economies in the world by 2020.
The minister said this yesterday in Abuja while addressing journalists during the observance of 2015 Commonwealth Day Celebration to highlight the various activities to take place this year with the theme: “A Young Commonwealth.”
The Commonwealth of Nations is an inter-governmental organisation of countries, dedicated to co-operation and governed by mutual respect. The group has a membership of 52 countries.
Shekarau said Nigeria is a major donor to Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and occupied a seat in the COL Board of Governors. “It is worthy of mention that Nigeria, through the federal ministry of education, has cleared its outstanding contributions to the organisation.”
