He said that this development was threatening the national food security programme and by extension the entire national security, as according to him, “the two complement one another.”
Speaking in Sokoto while inspecting the Kasarawa Silos Project, he said farmers could not continue to farm at lost.
“We should learn to eat our local farm produce as this would encourage farmers to produce more and entice our younger ones to farming,” he said.
The minister who was represented by the North-West Director of the Ministry, Dr. Leo Nyam, said one of the key issues in agricultural value chain development is the market.
“If a producer can be able to sell his produce, he will go back to farm and also use the money for some other things, buying inputs, sending his children to school among others.
“The federal government will extend grain aid to war areas and assist internally displaced people within and outside the country and it means we will have food security and if we have food security invariably we should have national security. This is the basis for it.”
