The ministry’s state coordinator for Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, Abba Gana Yamani, made the call recently in Jigawa at a one-day workshop for enlightening farmers on the effective use of chemicals against unwanted insects in their farms.
Gana said the act of self medication by farmers in their farms created more problems, saying Jigawa State was selected for the workshop because its farmers suffer more in the area of pests.
“The programme is organised to enlighten farmers of the effective ways of handling and use of chemicals in the farmland. Jigawa was selected for the programme because the state faces pest problems,” he said.
