The Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Environment, Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, has expressed the commitment of the ministry to partner relevant agencies in implementing developmental projects and cardinal programmes that will improve the state and well-being of the environment.

Mrs. Odusote stated this when a delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations (UN) led by the Country Representative in Nigeria, Mr. Suffyan Koroma, paid her a visit in her office in Abuja.

She said Nigeria was immensely endowed with uncommon human and natural resources compared to other countries of the world.

She, however, maintained that receiving technical support from intervention and development-focused agencies like FAO would greatly help to harness the exotic resources domiciled in the country in a way that would promote sustainable environmental development.

“We at the Ministry of Environment are more than ready to partner and work with FAO. Nigeria, as a nation, stands to benefit and also gain a lot from the technical assistance you may wish to offer us in various aspects or ways.

Earlier, Mr. Koroma said the aim of the visit was to familiarise and intimate the ministry on programmes and projects of mutual interest and areas where FOA was already providing support services to the Federal Government.

He said FAO was providing support to the government in the development of sub-national forest reference emission level, development of sub-national forestry monitoring system action plan, and building of the capacity of government officials in the use of modern laser equipment national forest inventory, among others.

Koroma pledged that FAO would continue supporting the ministry.
