The Federal Ministry of Justice has donated law books to the newly established Bingham University, Karu, Nasarawa State.

Making the presentation in a brief ceremony in Abuja last week, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said the donation was part of the social responsibility of the ministry and to promote continuing legal education.

Represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary and the Director, Legal Drafting, Mamman Hamza Tahir, the AGF said, “It is also to enhance the quality of the law degree they intend to award at the end of their course unit.” 

In his acceptance speech, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, who represented Prof William Qurix, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Alexander Adeleye, commended the ministry for choosing the school for donation of very expensive legal books to equip its law library. He said the books would help to qualify the university for accreditation by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

He said apart from the desire to have a good law faculty, the university had excelled in tuberculosis and HIV research and computer research.

Books donated by the ministry include: five cartons of ‘All Nigerian Law Reports 1989 Vol. 1 Part 1’; one carton of ‘International Finance and External Debt Management’; seven cartons of ‘Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, Abuja 1990’; 10 cartons of ‘Law Journal’; eight cartons of ‘Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999’; and two cartons of ‘Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2010 Vol. 1-14, Lexis Nexis’.
