Ahead of the 2021 National Youth Games scheduled for October in Ilorin, the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development has warned against age cheats and other sharp practices, vowing to sanction any state found to be culpable.

The Director of Grassroots Sports Development, Dr. Bode Durotoye who said the youth development programme has been going on as scheduled in the timeline disclosed that zonal eliminations for eight team sports have just been concluded in the six geo-political zones.

Durotoye said there would be sanctions against states and athletes that falsify age, engage in the use of performance enhancing substances, and misrepresent the disability status of special athletes amongst others.

Meanwhile, at the end of the qualifiers in the north-central zone which comprises six states and the FCT, the host Kwara State qualified in seven team events namely, Cricket (male &female), football (male &female), volleyball (male), and rugby (male &female.

Niger State picked the tickets in basketball (male) and handball (male), Benue State qualified in basketball, handball, hockey and volleyball, all in female categories. FCT qualified in beach volleyball male and female while Nasarawa State picked the ticket in male hockey event.

The 6th edition of the National Youth Games is scheduled to hold from October 10 to 19 in Ilorin, Kwara state.
