Weekly Trust learnt that Umar’s remarks at the function organized by ‘PDP Reform Forum’ had angered some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) who are now demanding explanation on the funds generated by their predecessors because they inherited a debt of over N600 million when they came on board on March 8 2008.

A reliable source within the party’s NWC yesterday underscored the need to know the whereabouts of the remaining N3 billion generated since N1 billion was deposited into the PDP Building Development Fund.

 The source said: “Let the EFCC or ICPC be invited by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to find out how the N4 billion was spent. We should like to know whether the outstanding N3 Billion was spent under Prince Vincent Ogbulafor or under the former National Chairman, Dr. Ahmadu Ali.”       

Dahiru had earlier said that the Ahmadu Ali-led NWC left a transparent accounting system for the party but alleged that its successor cannot account for the N4 billion left in the treasury.

When contacted after his remarks for clarification on the money left in PDP coffers, Dahiru said part of the fund was spent to organize congresses and Convention.

 He said: “We have generated a total of about N4 billion out of which we donated N1 billion for the construction of new National Secretariat. We left that money with the intention that it was going to form part of whatever is going to be the cost of the construction of the new National Secretariat. “I am not the Financial Secretary and I cannot know the amount in the treasury. But all I know is that we collected from the sale of forms about N4 billion, out of which we donated N1 billion. Part of the money was used for the congresses and conventions and the other part left, was donated for the construction of permanent secretariat,” he added.
