The suspect, Tochukwu Chukwu, had allegedly butchered his wife, Joy in cold blood at Oshodi area and was about dumping the dismembered body in the wee hours of the morning when he was arrested by some security guards.

Chukwu, who sells Japanese seats and motor body parts, reportedly met Joy while she was selling food at Aguiyi Ironsi Market, Ladipo.

The news of his arrest had spread round the spare parts market causing some people to descend on his shop. It was learnt that goods worth millions of naira were destroyed in the process.

It was gathered that the mob consist mainly youths who were also traders. They stormed the suspect’s shop located at Rowland Plaza, Osoro Street, Ladipo, around 2pm.

It was also learnt that it took the intervention of the market leaders, led by one Jude Nwankwo to stop the mob from setting the shop ablaze.

Witnesses said the youths were further enraged when they learnt that the suspect was seen holding the deceased a day before she was slain.

It was gathered that the suspect was apprehended by the vigilante group as they suspected his movement with a bucket, in which he was said to have packed the body parts of his wife with the intention of throwing them into a nearby ditch.

He was attacked and nearly mobbed before the police at Akinpelu Division rescued him. At the police station, officers there told our correspondent that the suspect had been transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCIID), Panti Yaba, Logos.

Sources said the suspect committed the act due to suspected infidelity on the part of the wife which had resulted into domestic violence before the ugly incident, while others said the suspect might have killed the victim for ritual purposes. It was also said that he was recently duped by fraudsters.

However, the autopsy report and police investigations were yet to be concluded.
