An irate mob in Danko Wasagu area of Kebbi State on Monday vandalised the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) office in the area, and killed a suspect that was being held over alleged theft of a motorcycle.

The suspect, who was identified as Abu Umar from Sanyinna area of Tambuwal in Sokoto State, was alleged to have stolen a motorcycle belonging to a resident of Danko Wasagu on a market day.

He was subsequently held by officials of the NSCDC and taken to their station in the area. However, it was gathered that those at the scene of the incident at the market where the theft allegedly took place were not pleased with his arrest. 

It was learnt that they forced their way into the NSCDC station, vandalized it and forcefully seized the suspect from their custody and killed him. 

The Assistant Commandant and Head of Administration at NSCDC command in Kebbi State, Buhari Isah Dogondaji, while  speaking to journalists, said it was an unfortunate incident because people in the area resorted to jungle justice by killing the suspect even though he was in the custody of the NSCDC.

He said: “It was a market day so the mob overwhelmed our men and those of the police and vigilante who tried to protect the suspect. Contrary to the claim that our station was set ablaze it was only vandalized during the mob action.”
