A suspected armed robber has been beaten to death by an angry mob in Kano, the police have said.

Kano State Police Spokesman, DSP Magaji Musa Majia, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased met his waterloo when he was apprehended during a failed robbery operation at Sharada Quarters of Kano Metropolis.

The deceased, identified as Bashiru Isah Adamu, a resident of No.7 Butchers’ Street, Benin City in Edo State, was said to have rode on a motorcycle to Ja’en Sharada Quarters around 4pm on Monday with one other now at large and knocked into a house posing as officials of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).

He said when the mistress of the house came out, the armed robbers demanded for the electricity bill “and when she went in to check for it they broke into the house and attacked her with a locally made pistol and robbed her of her HP laptop, two mobile phones, two computer disks and N8000.”

He added that after the robbers had collected the items and where about to go the woman raised alarm thus attracting the attention of neigbours who pounced on him and beat him to death before the police arrived the scene.

The victim of the robbery attack, who was at the police headquarters when the lifeless body of the suspected armed robber was paraded to the press, said, “He came as a man from KEDCO and demanded for January bill, and when I went inside my room and I was trying to bring out the bill, he came into my bedroom  and asked my daughter and my house maid to lie down, then they asked me to open my smart phone and do bank transfer, from there they gathered my phones, my computer, my ipad and N8000 and as they were going I followed them and screamed thieves and luckily their motor bike couldn’t start and the neighbours rushed in and apprehended this (the deceased) as his friend fled.”

Meanwhile, 14 suspected armed robbers and two kidnappers believed to have been terrorising residents of the city and its surrounding villages were also paraded by the police.

Several weapons including locally made guns, cartridge, cutlasses and knives of various sizes among others were said to have been recovered from the suspects.

Majia who identified the suspects said two of them were recently released from prison after serving four years and eight months for the same offences.

The two suspected kidnappers, Jabir Usman Sule and Bashir Aminu, popularly known as Karsan, were said to have demanded for N2m as ransom from the parents of a four-year-old child they had abducted.

It was gathered that the suspects gave the letter in which they demanded for N2m ransom to the immediate elder brother of the abducted child who later identified them thus leading to their arrest and the subsequent rescue of the child

While responding to questions on what they planned to do with the money if collected, they said they had no plans but might have considered the purchase of tricycles (Keke Napep) with some of it.

Majia said the suspects would soon be arraigned in a court.
