A mob on Tuesday night meted jungle justice on a suspected motorcycle thief near the Arts Council Junction in Makurdi Metropolis, capital of Benue State.
Our correspondent gathered that the suspect tricked a commercial motorcyclist around 11:00pm to convey him to somewhere along George Akume Way in Makurdi, and that while on the way, he pulled out a gun and ordered the rider to take him elsewhere.
Witnesses said luck, however, ran out on the suspect when the cyclist, on sighting some vigilantes, rode straight into their midst and the suspect took to his heels but was pursued, caught and killed instantly.
The police spokesperson in the state, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident, saying the suspect who disguised as a passenger was overpowered by the rider when he attempted to dispossess him of his motorcycle at gunpoint.
She explained that youths nearby pursued the suspect to the point where he was killed and burnt to ashes before the arrival of the police.
