An angry mob has lynched a middle-aged man identified as Wale Sunday after he allegedly killed two persons in Usen community, Ovia South West Local Government Area of Edo State.

The incident reportedly occurred on May 12, 2026, when the deceased allegedly attacked and killed two persons with a cutlass without provocation.

Sunday, who was said to be under the influence of a substance known as ‘Colos,’ reportedly picked up a heavily sharpened machete and attacked residents, killing two people before he was eventually overpowered and killed by an angry mob.

It was learnt that he entered the street wielding a sharp cutlass, beheaded the first person he encountered and proceeded to kill another victim.

Sources said the deceased also inflicted machete cuts on Osaro Aragbala, a member of the Edo State Security Corps, who attempted to restrain him from carrying out further attacks.

A source said Sunday was initially overpowered by members of the corps, but an enraged mob later took control of the situation and lynched him, bringing the death toll to three.

The Deputy Corps Commander, Operations, Edo State Security Corps, Richard Balogun, who confirmed the incident, described it as horrible and disturbing.

The spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, Eno Ikoedem, also confirmed the incident.

She said the bodies of the deceased were evacuated to a mortuary, while the injured member of the Edo State Security Corps was taken to a hospital for treatment.

She added that a bag belonging to Sunday was recovered at the scene and that a substance suspected to be ‘Colos’ was found inside it.
